Client Use Case - Mobile Surveillance Requirements
Following the announcement of a new Football Operations Center from the University of Houston, Austin Commercial was contracted to support them with the construction of this.
The project involved integrating this new structure with the current Stadium and Indoor Practice Facility, whilst also consolidating an older, smaller facility alongside this.
Due to the various elements of the project, there would be multiple entrance points and these will all require protection to prevent theft and other construction-related crime.
For the project, Austin Commercial required a security option that could protect the laydown areas whilst monitoring the progress of the facility restoration.
The Challenges
The project spans over a large perimeter of the University, leaving it exposed to many security vulnerabilities. Vast spaces are difficult to manage with their security 24/7 due to the amount of coverage required to ensure maximized protection.
Although options like guards can provide patrols and perimeter fencing can create physical deterrence, singularly both cannot provide the full coverage needed for a project of this size.
Other issues include a high risk of vagrant activity at the construction jobsite location with it being next to a train station. Such activity could cause delays, damage, as well as heavy financial and legal implications if vagrants manage to access the site.
This makes it paramount that the correct security measure or blend of measures are utilized in order to protect materials and timeline of the project, but also to protect public safety.
Construction jobsites can be dangerous and for any intruders who may not be aware of this, serious injury or even death could take place, both of which contractors could be held liable for.
